The special officer of a Sarawak Barisan Nasional assemblyman is now under police remand after being arrested Wednesday in a drug bust at the elected representative's service centre in Matu district, a rural area near Mukah.Police drove Abang Ikhsan Abang Abdul Ghani to Mukah after the 10pm raid to be produced before magistrate Saiful Sayoti for the remand order after a number of transparent plastic packets, which contained pills, were reportedly found hidden around the service centre.Malay daily Berita Harian quoted Mukah district police chief Deputy Superintendent Jimmy Panyau as saying a plastic cup, containing 0.4g of syabu, was also recovered in the raid, which was conducted following public complaints.Abang Ikhsan, in his 50s, was remanded under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.A urine test reportedly found him to be positive for syabu use.In its online report, Berita Harian quoted a police source as saying that Abang Ikhsan had possibly used the assemblyman's service centre as a distribution centre and that most of his buyers were local drug addicts.Mukah, a major sago-growing area in central Sarawak, is about 551km along the coast to the north of Kuching, the state capital. – January 9, 2015.
